What Is Therapy

Therapy is a term that refers to many different types of treatments or psychotherapies. These psychotherapies help people understand and change troubling emotions, thoughts, or behaviors. Most of these treatments are offered one-on-one by a licensed mental health professional. Some of these treatments are also available through groups. In addition, some therapists are trained to offer treatment via telephone and computer.

Psychotherapy is sometimes referred to as talk therapy. It is a safe and effective way to treat many mental health problems. There is an overwhelming body of research and evidence that proves that these treatments work to help alleviate many conditions and improve psychological wellbeing.

Counseling is the process of assisting individuals, families, or groups by applying clinical mental health and human development principles, methods, diagnosis, treatment plans, and psychotherapeutic techniques to enhance functioning and promote wellness.

Counselors can provide a safe and warm space where people feel comfortable discussing their problems and difficulties. They often work collaboratively with clients to identify goals and potential solutions; seek to improve communication, problem solving, and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. Counselors can also address issues related to education, relationships, occupations, and careers. They may be able to provide referrals to other specialists, if necessary. They may also be able to prescribe medication, depending on their licensure and training. Red light Therapy
